Lifespan: 19 to 40 years. Greater lifespan in captivity.

Sexing: Dimorphic, males (cob) are generally bigger than females (pen).

Distribution: Native to Europe, Asia and Northern Africa. Introduced to North America, Australasia and southern Africa

Habitat: Wetlands.

Threats: Secure in wild and kept in captivity.

Young: Cygnets

Collective: Bank on the ground and a wedge in flight.
